DIGITALLY RESTORED I STORM BOY (1976) + A SHORT FILM Tasmania The Wonderland

PART OF THE STAGE AND SCREEN FILM FESTIVAL

We’re thrilled to present Tasmania the Wonderland, a 9-minute travelogue from the National Film and Sound Archive, screening before our feature presentation of the beautifully restored 1976 classic Storm Boy.

Believed to be part of a longer film made for cinemas in 1935, Tasmania the Wonderland invites us on a nostalgic journey through Hobart and its surrounds — from cruising the Derwent and tram rides through town.

This short piece offers a charming window into Tasmania’s past. Then settle in for Storm Boy — digitally restored as part of the NFSA’s Restores program — a timeless Australian story that continues to captivate audiences. Whether you’re reliving its magic or discovering it for the first time, this visually stunning film is a beautiful reminder of the power of connection, nature, and storytelling. Starring Greg Rowe, David Gulpilil

Presented by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia’s digital restoration program - NFSA Restores – reviving our cinema icons in partnership with  Arts Screen Events’.
